Law firm website conversion: improve the enquiry journey
Review law firm website conversion with a practical mobile checklist for service clarity, contact links, form errors, confirmation and staff handover.

A law firm's website should help a visitor understand whether the firm handles their issue and how to make an appropriate enquiry. Improving conversion means improving that useful journey. More form submissions are not automatically more suitable instructions.
Choose one practice page and follow the route from arrival to staff acceptance. Check the words, the form and the handover together.
Answer the decision before asking for details
State the firm's confirmed service scope, relevant people, location or remote arrangements, and next step. Explain any important limitation plainly. Do not make visitors infer the practice area from generic claims about excellence.
Use real qualifications, approved experience and genuine reviews with the necessary permissions. Avoid presenting an illustrative AI workflow as something already deployed for clients.
For SRA-regulated firms, the Transparency Rules specify information requirements for covered services and address complaints and regulatory information. Review the requirements against the firm's actual work; not every practice area has identical price-publication requirements. SRA Transparency Rules.
Check the contact route on a phone
| Visitor task | Useful check | Failure to address |
|---|---|---|
| Find the appropriate team | Service page names the route clearly | Every enquiry goes to an unexplained generic form |
| Call | Telephone link and number agree | A broken link or unsupported availability claim |
| Submit an enquiry | Labels, errors and confirmation are understandable | Lost input, unclear error or false success |
| Use a keyboard | Focus is visible and controls work in order | A button or field cannot be reached |
| Understand the response | Confirmation describes the real process | Receipt is presented as acceptance of the matter |
These are proposed usability checks, not a ranking formula or accessibility certification. Try the route with longer names, an invalid email address and a failed submission, as well as the successful case.
Record the defect and the next action
For each failed check, keep the page URL, device or viewport, steps taken, observed result, expected behaviour and owner. A screenshot shows the symptom; the written steps let someone reproduce it. Retest after the fix using the same route.
For example, a fictional form displays success even though the receiving system did not create a task. The appropriate fix includes the delivery and fallback process, not just a new confirmation message. Measure successful receipt and staff ownership separately.
This is a conversion-review guide for an existing website. If the firm needs a new site, the solicitor website service is the relevant starting point. For search acquisition, use the SEO guide; a contact-page change alone does not create search demand.
Ask only for the initial information needed
Agree the first-form fields with the receiving team. A detailed evidence upload may belong in an approved later process. Explain what the visitor should expect and how their information will be handled.
Keep urgent contact arrangements distinct where the firm provides them. Do not funnel a time-sensitive request into an ordinary inbox while implying that someone is responding immediately. The criminal-enquiry guide explains the difference between notification delivery and staff acceptance.
Connect the form to a working queue
- 01Visitor understands the service
- 02Enquiry submitted
- 03Receipt confirmed
- 04Task assigned
- 05Staff accept responsibility
- 06Next action recorded
Record the source page and necessary routing information, create one task and assign responsibility. Handle retries so that one submission does not become several disconnected tasks. A failed integration needs a visible fallback.
The enquiry ownership guide describes the operational states. Without that handover, a polished page can still deliver an unanswered message.
Measure suitable enquiries and completed handovers
Compare form starts, successful submissions, staff acceptance, consultations and accepted matters separately. Record why enquiries were unsuitable where the firm can do so appropriately. Keep sensitive case information out of marketing analytics.
Use a baseline before changing the page. Small samples, seasonal differences and a different traffic mix can affect the result. Do not promise an uplift from a redesign alone.
The solicitor search guide connects discovery to this journey. The legal hub brings website, intake and workflow improvement together.
