A better-looking screen is only the beginning.
User experience (UX) concerns the journey: can someone understand what to do and complete it? User interface (UI) design concerns the screens and controls they use along the way. We consider both, so visual polish supports the task rather than covering up friction.
Understand the task
Define who is using the product, what they came to do and what stops them. Existing enquiries, feedback and analytics can help identify the problem. Evidence gaps should stay visible; a designer’s judgement is not the same as a tested user finding.
Make the route clear
Consider the order of information, the choices a person faces and the point where they need reassurance. For a website that may be finding a service and enquiring. For an app it may be completing a repeated business task without unnecessary steps.
Design the states, not just the screen
A polished interface also explains errors, empty results, loading and confirmation. Mobile layouts, readable text and visible keyboard focus belong in the design conversation. Accessibility should be considered throughout, without claiming certification from a screenshot.
Prepare for the build
Agree which journeys, screens and states are in scope and what the development team needs. Design and implementation are separate responsibilities unless explicitly included together. Existing systems and technical constraints should inform decisions before handover.
A better starting point
Bring the problem.
We’ll work through it.
No finished brief needed. These details help us understand the work before discussing scope.
- The main task people need to complete
- Where users or customers currently get stuck
- Existing screens, feedback or analytics
- Who will implement and maintain the product
Before you decide.
Is UX/UI the same as web design?
They overlap. UX/UI focuses on journeys and interfaces; a website project may also include content, development, hosting and other work. We clarify which responsibilities are included rather than assume design means a complete build.
Can you improve an existing website or app?
Yes. Start with the current experience and the problem. The scope may focus on one important journey rather than replace every screen. Existing content, brand recognition and working features should inform the changes.
Will you guarantee a higher conversion rate?
No. Conversion depends on audience, offer, traffic and implementation as well as design. Where measurement is available, agree a baseline and evaluate the completed journey. A visual redesign alone does not prove an improvement.
Does the work include user testing?
Research and validation methods depend on the agreed brief. Discuss what evidence exists and what needs to be tested. Participant recruitment, formal testing and specialist accessibility certification should not be assumed to be included.
